SongRoots Singing Camp began in July 2014 on beautiful Gambier Island with the goal of enriching and expanding the community of singers from Vancouver and beyond. It has grown from a mostly local 4 day camp of about 80 people to two 5 day camps and one weekend camp with over 250 students and 20 faculty from all over North America. Over the years SongRoots Singing camp has become a yearly highlight for many, fostered such a deep sense of community and has deepened the understanding, abilities, confidence and joy of countless singers!
In 2020 and 2021, with the impossibility of gathering at Camp Fircom, SongRoots founder Karla Mundy decided to ask the teachers who were scheduled to be at camp that summer if they would like to contribute an online course instead so that we could build an online experience to fill this large void.
Amazingly, all of the instructors set themselves to create an online course, learning new technology and adapting what they would have taught into something that could work in this format. The result of all of this effort was extraordinary. Not only were the courses wonderful but for the first time, students didn’t have to agonize over what courses to take because they could take ALL of the courses and at their own pace. Close to 200 people signed up for this camp that was available for that summer and over the years, many people have requested that the course be reopened as they felt like there was still so much to explore and revisit.
We are thrilled to be re-opening this whole program for you AND even more thrilled that all of the instructors have graciously offered that all proceeds from this course from now on, will go directly into the SongRoots Bursary Fund! The Bursary Fund helps many people come to camp each year who otherwise could not afford it. By taking this course, not only will you have access to 13 classes, you will be helping so many people come to camp!
