Witnessed Practice Sessions
During the first stage of the pandemic, I had witnessed practice sessions with two colleagues to keep ourselves accountable. We were finding that music practice was falling to the wayside with so many other daily commitments and pressing issues. We didn’t want to lose the potential benefit of all of this time at home yet we were all finding that we weren’t fitting practice into our schedules. We committed to meeting every morning at 8:30 to practice for 30 minutes. We would start the Zoom, say a quick hello and what we were working on and then we would all mute and work away for 30 minutes. There was something about showing up for each other, even though we couldn’t hear each other, that worked so beautifully. We kept it up for over 6 months!
For ‘Next Level: Develop Your Personal Practice’, I am also working alongside with you in committing to practice and explore the journey together. I will be practicing all days that I possibly can and want to offer ‘WITNESSED PRACTICE’ sessions every Tuesday & Wednesday at 12:00 pm starting Jan 25th until March 9th.
How will they work for us?
- I will be on Zoom 5 minutes before noon.
- Anyone who wants to practice alongside me, join in just before noon (or sneak in late if you need to)
- We will let each other know what we are working on (if you are late, just type it in the chat)
- Everyone mutes themselves and we get down to business. You are practicing like normal but your Zoom is on. We can see each other but the point is not to watch each other – just do your own practice.
- At about 12:45, people can share how it went – either in the chat or out loud.
- That’s it! You might want to keep going after the call ends or call it a day. You can come and go from the call any time you like.
**These are completely optional. They may help some people or they may not. It’s more just an accountability/camaraderie boost. My friends and I found it amazingly inspiring & comforting to see each other practice 🙂
